Carnegie Music Hall LightingPittsburgh, Pennsylvania

2024 NECA Project Excellence Winner

Project Overview

The Carnegie Music Hall lighting renovation project stands as a notable mark of innovation and preservation, introducing a modernized hall for users while conserving the more than 100 years of history it holds.

The new lighting was designed to meet the diverse needs of its users, with a user-friendly dimming rack allowing for adjustable lighting tailored to various shows and events hosted at the hall.

The project scope included retrofitting, rewiring, replacing, and relamping lighting fixtures and controls, expanding the hall's usability for the entire community. Specific lighting focus was given to retrofitting the attic dome luminaires, replacing and rewiring sconce luminaires, rewiring exit signs for safety, installing emergency backup lighting, and rewiring and refinishing the balcony recessed luminaires.

The project stands out for its innovative and delicate approach, enhancing the historic hall while integrating modern technology and lighting. This blend of old and new creates a sense of originality that strengthens the hall’s original design details, making them more appealing and exemplifying a forward-thinking approach.
