City of Pittsburgh Streetlight ModernizationPittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Streetlight Modernization
Project Overview
Sargent Electric was the installation contractor for the City of Pittsburgh's citywide LED streetlight conversion, one of 52 U.S. city programs replacing aging high-pressure sodium fixtures with networked LED luminaires on a smart lighting platform. Sargent replaced all 36,536 roadway fixtures across the city's 90 neighborhoods. The $15 million program follows Dark Sky Principles and was sequenced to reach historically underinvested communities first.
Sargent procured and staged every fixture and control node, and bench tested each controller at its prefab workshop before installation. Up to 10 crews worked neighborhood by neighborhood inside DOT-certified work zones, removing the old fixtures, installing the new luminaires, and commissioning each one through Dimonoff's network lighting management system. Real-time telemetry fed City and public-facing project dashboards.
The project finished with zero unplanned outages, zero recordable safety incidents, and 99% operational integrity at initial commissioning.
