Project Overview
The Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care (HACCC) expansion is a $36 million, 28,000 SF addition to MaineGeneral's flagship 59,700 SF oncology facility in Augusta, Maine. Launched in October 2023 and completed in spring 2026, the project grew exam rooms from 15 to 27 and infusion bays from 34 to 44, and added dedicated space for genetics, pharmacy, laboratory, survivor clinic, and patient education programs. A new covered entrance, courtyard, and improved access to the healing gardens were also included, supporting a facility that now treats more than 200 patients per day.
Sargent's scope across the facility included the electrical distribution system serving new and renovated clinical spaces; emergency systems ensuring uninterrupted backup power for infusion, exam, and imaging areas; fire alarm systems throughout the expanded building; TelData systems supporting nurse call, clinical communications, and facility-wide data networks; and specialty systems tailored to the demanding requirements of oncology treatment environments.
The expansion positions the HACCC, which serves patients from all 16 Maine counties, to provide world-class oncology care close to home, with multidisciplinary treatment capabilities that rival major cancer centers nationally.
