Distribution System Rebuild
Project Overview
Sargent Electric rebuilt one of the backbone distribution circuits on Martha's Vineyard for Eversource. The scope included replacing 155 distribution poles and installing 5 circuit miles of 795 open wire spacer cable, which upgrades the circuit's capacity and reliability for the island.
Crews also reconductored all secondary wire to 4/0 triplex and replaced every house service along the route. The work ran through tight village spacing and along local and tourist roadways, so Sargent developed traffic control plans with local officials to limit delays for residents, visitors, and businesses.
Because the project sits on an island, every crew member, piece of equipment, and load of material moved by ferry. Sargent planned the work around ferry schedules and capacity to keep production on track. The rebuild strengthens a critical island circuit and modernizes the system while limiting disruption to a high-visibility community.
